My journey as a software engineer started early. When I first came to the US from Ukraine in 1989 at the age of 8, my family received an Apple IIe through a donation. Me and my brother spent day and night writing BASIC code on that machine and it started us down the road to being software engineers. We spent many hours writing videogames and figuring out the internals of that machine. My teenage years were spent hacking on Linux and writing C. Since those days of my youth, software has eaten the world and is core to so much of what we all do. Being part of that process and writing the software that fits the needs of people is a creative and analytical challenge that I've always enjoyed.
I attended the University of Illinois at Chicago where I received a B.S. in Computer Science. I was president of the school ACM chapter and helped organize the Flourish open source conference for many years while I was there. I also pursued a PhD where my work focused on decision making under uncertainty in multi-agent settings, but I ultimately left the program early to pursue a career as a software engineer.
In the years since, I've had the pleasure of working with dozens of companies across many domains, and using all kinds of technologies. In most of those projects I wore many hats, with experience architecting and writing software, and setting up the systems that run that software. Whatever role I've played in an organization, my focus has always been on improving the experience of the human beings who will use and run the products I deliver. At Atomic Object, I get to work with a team of talented people that have the same passion for creating something wonderful and human-focused that I do.
