At the end of my first college tour, at Aquinas College for English and Writing, I found a book on web development. I thought: if I ever have a chance to go back, this is what I’d go for. Why? The infinite possibilities it presented for learning and for building.
Fast forward through years of work across many industries, and I found that I exhibit one very prominent, loud, irrefutable characteristic: I’m a Maker. As a Maker, I love to tinker, problem-solve, and build. There are very few things as gratifying as taking an idea, a visualization, rooting that into your problem-solving, tinkerer brain, and bringing it into existence with sheer effort and design.
Serendipitously, I got my chance to go back to school at Grand Valley State University for Computer Science where I was lucky enough to end up with an internship at Atomic Object. There I found other Makers who love building software and refining the process of building. I knew I’d found the right people and place to build my career in software development.
Today you’ll still find me tinkering with everything: cosplay builds, 3D models and animations, stories both fiction and nonfiction, dinner, and, obviously, software.
