Tyler Herrmann

Armed with a math degree and a rudimentary knowledge of computer science, I entered the working world in 2014 as a business analyst for a small FinTech company. I quickly began to sense that the software developers in my office were having more fun than anyone else. After learning the systems my company built inside and out, I asked my boss one day if I could switch roles and become a dev myself. To my delighted surprise he agreed, and before I knew it I was building complex features across the stack in C# and JavaScript.

A few years later, I moved on to an Agile consultancy in New York City, where I learned the joys of pair programming and test-driven development. These practices, and the communities who foster them, helped me realize that software engineering is more about people than programs. Tackling technical challenges is fun and invigorating, but I believe that the core of any great engineering practice is the pursuit of happy users, happy teams, and happy customers.

I am a software developer and lifelong musician. When I'm not at work you're likely to find me thwacking drums in one of my bands or tinkering with my army of synthesizers. I find that my professional and artistic selves are mutually reinforcing, and I am grateful every day for the ability to be both.
