A principle of Scandinavian furniture design is to create something that will blend into the background until you’re ready to admire it. These principles have stayed with me since my first foray into design, and I seek to make software in the same way.
I received a BA from The University of Chicago in Visual Arts and Pre-Medicine, but struggled to reconcile the analytical problem-solving of medicine and the creativity of visual arts. I didn’t want to let go of either aspect, so I spent a few years after college building my art practice and working in various research roles.
While at an academic cybersecurity lab, I learned about the field of interaction design, and realized it was the perfect combination of the analytical and the creative. I returned to school, and received my master’s degree in Human Computer Interaction and Design from Indiana University Bloomington, located in my home town.
When I’m not at work, I enjoy flexing my artistic skills - painting, figure drawing, making zines, and reading indie graphic novels. Also, I can often be seen following neighborhood cats while listening to health or culture podcasts.
