Atomic Object’s Chicago office has been named one of the "50 Best Startups to Work for in Chicago in 2025" by Built In Chicago. According to Built In, this recognition is based on the West Loop-based office’s commitment to fostering a rewarding and fulfilling workplace environment.

Though the award is meant for startups, Atomic recently completed its 22nd year of software development. In 2020, Atomic extended its reach to Chicago by seeding the office with four Atoms from its Grand Rapids headquarters. In the four years since its establishment, the Chicago office has grown to over twelve Atoms. Throughout its growth, the team has made substantial contributions to the Insurtech and Manufacturing sectors and partnered with several startups to successfully launch innovative products across industries.

Managing Partner Jordan Schaenzle says the award is gratifying.

"This is an exciting and meaningful recognition of the hard work we’ve done to build a culture of passionate, caring software makers who genuinely enjoy working together,” he said. “We're a people-first organization that is constantly reevaluating what it means to be a workplace that supports people's various needs and desires.”

Managing Partner Rebecca Canterbury says Atomic’s dedication to employee growth and satisfaction sets it apart as a workplace where employees are encouraged to pursue their interests and professional development.

"Software makers are supported to grow in their crafts and pursue their interests as software practitioners,” she said.“It helps people feel more fulfilled in their jobs when they are challenged to do meaningful work.”

Canterbury stressed the importance of a positive work environment and employee satisfaction to the continued success and growth of the company.

"We have talented people who stick around and contribute back because they are engaged in our values,” she said.

Looking to the future, Schaenzle says he and Canterbury will build on the workplace experience by creating opportunities for new Atoms, including those just getting started in their software development careers.

"In the coming year, we plan on rolling out the Accelerator program in Chicago, which will open up new opportunities for recent college grads to join our team,” he said. “This program will provide coaching, peer discussions, pair programming, and mentorship opportunities that will elevate their skills.”

As Atomic Object Chicago expands its team, Schaenzle encourages recent college graduates fascinated by computer science to apply.

"If you're passionate about software and ready to take your skills to the next level, reach out to us,” he said. “We are accepting applications and looking to hire three individuals starting in the summer of 2025."
