WECC Selects Atomic Object to Build Large-scale Renewable Energy Tracking Platform
Atomic Object will replace legacy systems with a modern, user-focused platform that meets the evolving needs of renewable energy participants and regulators.

The Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) selected Atomic Object to design and develop a new enterprise software platform for the Western Renewable Energy Generation Information System (WREGIS). The project will deliver a secure, scalable, and intuitive solution that supports both compliance and voluntary renewable energy certificate markets across the Western United States and Canada.
The WREGIS, operated by WECC, is an independent, web-based tracking system for renewable energy generation in the Western Interconnection. WREGIS issues and tracks renewable energy certificates to ensure accurate accounting and transparency in both compliance and voluntary renewable energy markets.
Through this partnership, Atomic Object will replace legacy systems with a modern, user-focused platform that meets the evolving needs of renewable energy participants and regulators. The company’s integrated approach—combining product strategy, design, development, and delivery—will create a powerful and sustainable digital foundation for tracking renewable energy generation and compliance across the region.
“WECC selected Atomic Object from more than a dozen RFP respondents because of the team’s qualifications, energy sector experience, collaborative approach, and commitment to a modern and innovative user experience,” said Melanie Frye, WECC President and CEO.
Atomic Object Managing Partner Jordan Schaenzle said his team in Chicago is eager to begin work on the new platform.
“We’re partnering with WECC to rethink the critical workflows that thousands of WREGIS users rely on to track renewable energy generation and compliance,” said Schaenzle. “As demand for clean energy grows, the systems that support renewable markets must evolve to keep pace. We plan to apply our expertise in user experience design, system architecture, and product delivery to this important mission.”
With more than 20 years of experience, Atomic Object helps organizations across industries launch new digital products, modernize legacy systems, and deliver exceptional user experiences. The consultancy has built more than 300 products for clients ranging from startups to Fortune 500 companies.
Together, WECC and Atomic Object aim to create a software platform that meets stakeholder needs and strengthens the infrastructure supporting renewable energy tracking across the West.
