I took my first computer science class, Intro to Java, my junior year of high school. It was clear once I started that this was something I really enjoyed and saw myself doing for a long time. Coding felt natural to me and the immediate gratification I felt watching my code come to life and do exactly what I intended was unlike anything I had experienced before.
Motivated to keep learning, I sought out more opportunities to grow my skills before going to college to get my degree. During my senior year of high school, I landed an internship with a local manufacturing company’s IT department, where I built my very first web app—an ASP.NET MVC 5 site for displaying warehouse data. This was a special project to me, I loved working on the frontend design while also learning C# and how to write SQL queries, I knew that this was the type of work I wanted to do. This experience cemented my intention to earn my bachelors degree in computer science and focus on full stack development. My 17-year-old self would be thrilled to know that I do in fact make web apps for my career and that I love doing it!
