Bekah Cheek

Software Consultant & Developer, Grand Rapids

Cheek Bekah 2018 Web

I discovered the world of software development in college while working a summer job as a software testing intern. That summer, I learned to see software development as both an art and a science, a combination of problem-solving and creativity. I made the switch to a computer science major and graduated in 2018 from Grand Valley State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science and minors in mathematics and music. I joined Atomic shortly after and graduated from the Atomic Accelerator program in 2020.

I'm passionate about working with clients to build software to meet the needs of users. In 2020, I became a certified practitioner of human-centered design through the LUMA Institute. I strive to be an advocate for the user, even when that means cutting out features that would be exciting to build.

I enjoy collaborating with teams and leveraging the strengths of each team member to reach the best end result. While I love being a developer, I'm convinced that designers have superpowers, and I love working at a place where developers and designers collaborate so closely.

When I'm not writing code, I can often be found in my garden or tending to a variety of houseplants. I'm a member of the Atomic soccer team, where I try to make up for lack of skill with tenacity. I've recently joined the world of fermented kitchen projects and enjoy experimenting with new sourdough recipes and testing out different kombucha flavors.
