I love applying the knowledge and best practices I've picked up over a long development career to efficiently turn ideas into captivating software. I'm happiest when I can help a team break a challenging set of features down into a concrete plan and then execute efficiently on that plan to deliver a great product.

I started out playing around with my Dad's DEC PRO-325 back in 1982. Floppy disk only! It was upgraded to a full 64KB of RAM, so you know it was a beast. My interest in that machine led me to explore programming on our Texas Instruments TI-99/4A and take Pascal classes in high school.

I really enjoyed creating via programming, so I majored in Computer Science at Calvin College and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in CS in 1998.

Since then, I've worked on everything from assembly code for graphics primitives to class libraries to mobile and web applications. My favorite projects at Atomic Object have included:

  • Optimizing and extending a video streaming service for Steelcase along with building administrative tools to track usage and configure hardware. The primary technologies for this project included C#/ASP.NET, Objective C, Ruby on Rails, Clojure, and Ember.
  • Building tablet-based applications for John Deere tractors. We used C++ and Qt to build custom applications to control tractors, combines, and sprayers.
  • An Android application for high school students and their parents to keep track of team schedules, scores, and updates.
  • Several other projects involving Ruby on Rails, Microsoft ASP.NETMVC, C#, and JavaScript.

I'm also organizing and leading Atomic's Accelerator program. We're really excited to have an amazing cohort of college grads who've joined us this summer, and I'm having a wonderful time mentoring and coaching the group!
