Design has always been a part of who I am as a person. Whether it was creating detailed presentations for my world history projects, sketching logos and jerseys for made-up NBA teams, spending hours in the "create-a-wrestler" mode in WrestleMania 2000 on N64, or studying visual communication at NCCU, I knew that I wanted to make things for a living, but I wasn’t sure which career path was right for me.
One afternoon, I stumbled upon "The Design of Everyday Things" by Don Norman, a misplaced book at the Oberlin Regional Library, and everything just started making sense. What the book explained about the power of affordances reshaped my ideas about what a well-designed product should be. "The Design of Everyday Things" inspired me to pursue user experience design as a career. I eventually earned my Masters in Human-Computer Interaction from DePaul University and have been designing software in the educational, financial, and healthcare spaces since then.
My design philosophy is simple: well-designed things should be pragmatic and meaningful. My design convictions are shaped by a foundation rooted in design fundamentals, a desire to collaborate, and an interest in the ethics of emerging technology. As a designer for Atomic Object, I thrive on tackling new challenges, and I am committed to making a positive impact through enhancing user experiences.
When I’m not working or pontificating about design, I enjoy cooking, drawing, basketball, fighting games, and watching stand-up comedy.
