I grew up on the computer. Although this mostly meant playing computer games, it helped me become familiar and comfortable with technology. This interest in computing, combined with a passion for math, helped me choose my initial major at Grand Valley State University: computer engineering.
During my first semester introductory engineering class, my professor helped me discover my passion for software over hardware. The next semester I switched from studying engineering to computer science, a decision I never regretted.
I found that programming allowed me to be creative and curious, interacting with computers in a completely new way. It forced me to ask questions and try to create answers when I couldn’t find what I was looking for.
Over the course of my time at Grand Valley, I worked as an intern at Consumers Energy both in their IT department and on their software development team. I also spent three years working in the IT department at GVSU, giving me a great deal of customer service experience aiding faculty, staff, and students with their technology questions.
I graduated from Grand Valley in April 2017 with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and started working at Atomic Object soon after.
